Wrestling Gold Medalist Tamyra Mensah To Buy Her Mom A Food Truck With Prize Money

Early last week, wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock won gold in the Olympics women's freestyle match (68 kilograms) against Nigerian silver medalist Blessing Oborududu. In addition to the gold medal, the superstar athlete was granted a $37,500 cash prize. She said she plans to use her winnings to help her mother purchase a food truck.

Huge Walrus Decides To Borrow A Stranger's Boat

For the past several months, a walrus named Wally has been exploring European waters, far from his native Arctic. He’s thought to have fallen asleep on an iceberg near Greenland earlier this year, which then drifted south.

The scenery may be different from what Wally’s used to — but he’s still making the most of his unplanned adventure.

Earlier this week, employees from Clonakilty Distillery in Ireland spotted the wayward walrus. He’d evidently decided to rest his fins a while by commandeering one of their vessels anchored offshore.

A serendipitous series of events turned an 11-year-old boy into a stalwart hero, after a dying man gave him a tent.

Last year, just before the pandemic reached the UK, Max Woosey’s parents were helping to care for a neighbor, Rick Abbott, who had terminal cancer.

They came to appreciate how vital it was that the local hospice in North Devon was able to help their neighbor remain in his own home, which was his final wish.

Barnacle-inspired Glue Can Stop Bleeding In Less Than 30 Seconds

Currently, most bleedings during surgery or traumatic injury are stopped with hemostatic agents, materials that induce the blood to clot. These, however, can take a few minutes to work and don’t always do their job properly if there’s too much blood, which can make it difficult to get adhesives to stick to the injured area.

In an effort to solve the issue, MIT scientists have taken inspiration from barnacles and developed a super-strong surgical glue that can stop bleeding within 30 seconds.
