15 Home DIY Projects You'll Love
With all of the extra time indoors this past year, it's made all of us realize the importance of having a calm and relaxing home environment. And for some others (myself included), it's made you a little bored with seeing the same walls and same interiors day in and day out. Whether you're looking for more tranquility or to spruce up your decor, we've compiled a list of DIY projects that are fun, simple, and affordable!
If you've got a green thumb, look up plants and herbs that are easy to grow indoors (or outdoors if you have a yard) and plant away! For those of you who don't have a green thumb (I'm definitely in that group), buy ones that are already pre-planted and come with the soil, pot, etc, and place that beautiful new plant in a suitable area inside your home.
This DIY activity is entertaining to do, adds a unique boho-chic wall design, plus it’s a guaranteed conversation starter because everyone will want to know where you got it!
What you'll need:
Yarn
A stick (either from outside or you can buy one - depending on the look you are going for)
What to do:

What you'll need:
A balloon
Flour or rice
A small funnel
What to do:
1. Use the funnel to pour either rice or flour into your balloon until it reaches the size you want.
2. Once the size is to your liking, tie the balloon tight so that nothing can fall out.
3. Squeeze away!
A succulent terrarium allows you to bring elements from the earth into your home, but with more style and less mess.
What you'll need:
A transparent glass container
Small decorative pebbles
Activated charcoal
Succulent soil mix
Your favorite succulent(s)
What to do:
1. Cover the bottom of the container with a thin layer of pebbles.
2. Add another thin layer of the activated charcoal and then a layer of potting soil.
3. Add plants and arrange them in a way that brings you joy.
4. Once all plants are secured in the soil, finish off your design with a layer of pebbles on top. Now you get to admire your one-of-a-kind succulent terrarium!
What you'll need:
Test tubes
3M Command tape
Real or artificial flowers/plants
What to do:
1. Take double sided tape and stick it to the wall where you want the test tubes to hang.
2. Fill the test tubes halfway with water.
3. Take the plant of choice and stick it in the test tubes.
4. Remove the adhesive from the other side of the tape, stick the test tube to the wall, and hold in place for 30 seconds-1 minute per strip to make it extra secure.
Note: It’s important to pick a plant or flower that can grow (or survive) in only water. If you have allergies, another option is to add artificial plants to the test tubes so you can still get the same look but without all the sneezing.
Crystal sun catchers are not only beautiful to look at, but crystals can also bring positive energy and help remove negative thoughts and energy from the space.
What you'll need:
Crystals with holes in them
String
What to do:
1. Thread string through crystals and tie off the end to secure it.
1B: Another option is to tie a knot or two below each crystal so that you can have space in between crystals.
2. Hang your creation near a window and admire the beautiful array of colors and light.
What you'll need:
A couple of canvases
Paint
Paint brushes
Optional: A glass of wine to get those creative juices flowing :)
What to do:
1. Take your handy paint brush and go to town on the canvas with different colors and shapes until you've made something you like.
2. Pour another glass of wine and celebrate your artistic creation.
Displaying your hat collection on the wall is a great way to save storage space while also adding a touch of playfulness to the interior.
What you'll need:
A stick either from outside or you can buy a finished one (depends on the look you’re going for)
String
Clothespins
Hats that are ready to shine
What to do:
1. Figure out where you want the hats to hang on the wall so that you know how long to cut your string.
2. Cut a piece of string to desired length and tie one end to the stick.
3. On the other end of the string, make a loop big enough to fit a clothespin.
4. Repeat this until there are enough strings to hold all of your cute hats.
5. Find a place on your wall where you want the hats and hang the stick on the wall.
5. Attach the hats to the strings with clothespins.
What you'll need:
String or twine

What to do:

What you'll need:
String or thin metal chain
Teacup with saucer plate
Hot glue
Bird seeds
Note: If you don’t have a single teacup and saucer at home that you’d like to use, I’d recommend stopping by a vintage store or Goodwill to find an affordable and unique teacup set.
What to do:
1. Take the teacup and hot glue the side without the handle to the middle of your plate.
2. Wrap the string or chain under the plate so that you can hang it up outside.
3. Pick the place where you want to bird watch and hang your bird feeder.
4. Fill the teacup and plate with bird seeds.
What you'll need:
Empty wine bottle(s)
String lights or flowers (or both)
Twine or string (optional)
Hot glue
What to do:
1. Start by washing and soaking the bottle to make it easier to peel off the label.
2. Once your bottle is squeaky clean, add some string lights or flowers (or both) on the inside of the bottle.
2B. For some extra flare, take twine or string and wrap it around the top part of the bottle and glue in place. There are a lot of different ways to do this so just play around with it until you find a design that you’re happy with.
3. Repeat steps above to make multiple wine bottle lights.
What you'll need:
70% Isopropyl alcohol
Water
Ziplock bag (preferably a freezer safe one)
A freezer
What to do:
1. Add 0.5 cups of rubbing alcohol and 1.5 cups of water to the ziplock bag.
2. Close the bag and make sure it’s sealed by flipping it upside down over your sink.
3. Place the bag in the freezer. You can always adjust the amount of liquid you want depending on the size of your ziplock bag, as long as you keep the ratio of your mixture to 25% rubbing alcohol and 75% water.
4. After 24 hours in the freezer, your ice pack’s ready for the next “Ouch!” or "Sh**!" moment.
Adding a homemade diffuser to your bathroom is a stylish and healthier alternative to replacing those aerosol air fresheners. And you can change up the ambiance of your bathroom simply by switching scents.
What you'll need:
Clean, empty container (could be an old perfume bottle, small vase, etc) - preferably with a narrower neck
Reed sticks
Carrier oil (such as sweet almond or grapeseed)
Essential oil(s) of your choice
What to do:
1. Clean the container and dry thoroughly.
2. Pour in the carrier oil (ratio should be about 70-80% of the total oil amount)
3. Pour in essential oils (20-30%, depending on how strong you want the scent).
4. Place your diffuser in the room of choice and start enjoying the new aromas!
What you'll need:
Glass jar with a spout (usually used for serving drinks). If you don’t have one, you can find one at Target, Amazon, etc.
Laundry detergent
Small plate (optional)
What to do:
1. Pour laundry detergent into the glass jar until it's full.
2. Place the jar in an easily accessible place so that you can reach the spout without any issues.
3. It can sometimes be helpful to put a small plate under the spout to prevent it from dripping after you use it.
What you'll need:
A thick piece of wood
Nails
Hammer Pencil with eraser
Yarn or string
What to do:
1. Start by drawing out a simple shape, like a heart or a star, with a pencil on the piece of wood. It can be helpful to put dots about an inch apart along the shape’s outline.
2. Grab the hammer and start hammering in the nails where you've just made your dots.
3. Erase your design from the wood if you’d like.
4. Wrap string around the nails until it resembles the shape or design you want.
4. Hang it on the wall and prepare for the influx of compliments you’re going to be getting from friends and family.
