10 Ways To Make 2022 Your Best Year Yet

It may not be January 1st, but there’s still plenty of time to make changes and create a fresh start for yourself. Whether you’ve already set your intentions for 2022 or you’re looking for some extra motivation, I’ve compiled a handful (or technically two handfuls) of ways to make 2022 not just another year but THE year where you take steps toward the life you want and deserve.

Set Goals That Matter To you

Each person’s journey in life is unique, and goals should reflect that. Don’t get distracted or pressured by what others are doing. Instead, focus on setting goals that matter to you.

If you like jotting things down, create a list of goals. If you’re more of a visual person, create a mood board. Place the list or vision board someplace visible so you’ll be reminded of it daily.

I highly recommend setting both small and big goals so you can celebrate the small victories throughout the year while moving toward those big goals.

Suggestion: Set a small goal to make your bed every morning. It might sound like a small feat, but you’ll start each day with a goal already accomplished, and that can make a world of difference in the rest of the day.

Don’t be afraid to set REALLY big goals either. Even if you don’t fully reach them, you’re far more likely to get further ahead than if you only set ‘realistic’ ones.

Celebrate Your Wins (regardless Of Size)

Not only is it fun to celebrate accomplishments, but that positive reinforcement will give you the motivation to push harder and accomplish even more of your goals. It does’t need to be extravagant or over-the-top, but remember to treat yourself for your hard work.

Ever wonder why some athletes yell or cheer after winning a point or scoring a goal? It creates an immediate reward afterwards and puts them in a positive state of mind that increases the likelihood of them repeating their success again. Now you don't necessarily need to scream at the top of your lungs after making your bed, but on the other hand, why not! ;)

Have An Accountability Partner

You don’t have to be in it alone. In fact, I highly recommend letting others in on your journey. If there’s someone in your life who you trust to hold you accountable, tell them your goals and ask them to check in with you regularly. Make sure it’s not a one-way street though, so offer to do the same for them if they want/need it.

Don’t have a potential accountability partner that comes to mind? Consider seeking out a virtual one. There are several accountability websites and apps out there where you can find an accountability partner who you click with. Some of the sites I found when doing a quick Google search: Focusmate, Supporti, and GetMotivatedBuddies.

Find The Right Tribe

Who you surround yourself with can make all the difference in the world. If you’re fortunate to already have a core group of people in your life who support you and lift you up, that’s amazing! If you haven’t quite found your tribe yet, it’s never too late to start, and if you take action and put out those vibrations, I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that 2022 will be the year where it’s going to happen (it could be that future virtual accountability partner). Your tribe is out there, even if it takes a bit of extra time to find them.

Be Honest With Yourself

It’s not always an easy or fun thing to be brutally honest with yourself, but it’s so important to do so if you really want to grow and thrive. None of us are perfect, and by no means am I suggesting that you need to be on your A-game every day, but don’t sell yourself short either. You’re so much more capable than you realize, so make sure you hold yourself accountable when you start to feel like you’re slipping up too often.

The Power Of Habit

I don’t know about you, but after the rollercoaster rides of 2020 and 2021, maintaining a consistent routine has provided much-needed stability and calm in my life. Having a steady routine filled with good habits will not only make you feel more in control of your life, but it’ll make it so much easier for you to concentrate on what matters to you, such as the new goals that you just set! A daily routine doesn’t need to feel like a chore either. Make sure to add daily rewards/fun moments that you look forward to each day. This could be anything from enjoying a hot cup of coffee in the morning (aka the highlight of my morning) to jamming out to your favorite playlist in the car on your way to work.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

All of us have certain things that we are itching to try, but fear holds us back. However we also know how incredible it feels when we conquer a fear, and oftentimes after it’s done, we realize that it wasn’t so bad after all. Who knows? Maybe a certain activity that’s out of your comfort zone will end up becoming your new obsession!

Don’t Let Social Media Take Over Your Life

I know this one’s really hard, and I’m definitely guilty of this, but I’m working toward spending more quality time on social media and less mindless time. Yes, social media can be a great outlet for inspiration and videos/images that move us, but it can also be a trigger for stress and anxiety, especially when platforms like FB and Instagram are filled with constant news headlines and updates about every disaster in the world. It’s good to be informed, but it’s equally important to unplug and reconnect with your real, physical world.

Declutter Your Home (and Life)

Having a clean and tidy space is not going to make all your problems go away, but it will certainly improve things significantly! A clean house increases your physical and mental wellness and can transform your space from one that causes stress and irritation to one that brings happiness and tranquility. Start by taking small steps, such as cleaning out and reorganizing your closet or tidying up your bedroom.

Actually Take Those Rest Days

If you’re one of those people who’s constantly working in overdrive, and you keep postponing that rest day, consider this your reminder to DO IT! You are not an actual Energizer Bunny, so don’t wear yourself out until you’ve got nothing left. Carve out time for resting and recharging. As the saying goes, “If you don't pick a day to relax, your body will pick it for you.”
